Existence of women sarpanches in villages is a step towards women empowerment – ETO
 Sarpanch to perform his duty without bias – Deputy Commissioner

 Cabinet Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO while addressing the function organized in honor of women sarpanches elected in his constituency invited them to work to ensure transparency in development works.  He said that it is imperative to ensure judicious use of public money for the welfare of the people and comprehensive development of the villages.  He said that it is a matter of pride for us that this time 53 percent women are Sarpanch.
 He said that if the sarpanch performs his duty well, he can change the fate of the common man and his villages.  He said that the state government will give full support to the sarpanches for every good work.
 He invited women sarpanches to eradicate the scourge of drugs from the state and said that with the active role of sarpanches, Punjab will soon be made a drug-free state.  The cabinet minister said that sarpanches have a big role to play and they should perform their duties effectively.
   The Cabinet Minister said that nearly 70 percent of the population of our country lives in villages, due to which Panchayati Raj institutions are seen as beacons of democracy.
 S. Harbhajan Singh assured the sarpanches that no shortage of funds will be allowed to carry out development work in the villages.  He asked the sarpanches to give priority to the development works of their villages so that the state government can start work in this regard.  He said that panchayats should pass resolutions for all-round development of villages and the state government will use every trick for this.
 On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sahni urged everyone to play an active role in renovating the villages by starting a constructive campaign so that we can create Rangla Punjab.  He also asked the sarpanches to work hard to make the villages clean, green and pollution free.  He told them that whatever program you draw up for the development of the villages, the district administration will support you wholeheartedly.  On this occasion, AAP women’s president Mrs. Sunena Randhawa, Mr. Naresh Pathak, DSP Jandiala Guru Ravinder Singh and other dignitaries were present.
